Abstract

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which emerged in 2019 and subsequently affected many sectors by affecting the whole world, certain changes have occurred in every field. Many sectors, including insurance, have experienced changes in this process. The purpose of this study is to examine the data of participation insurance companies and to make an assessment of the impact of the pandemic on the sector, before and during the period of Covid-19. The obtained data are analyzed with the descriptive analysis method, which is a qualitative research method. For this purpose, the premium production data of participation insurance companies from 2018 to the first half of 2021, obtained from the official website of the Insurance Association of Turkey, the top institution of the insurance sector, were examined and the changes were analyzed. As a result of the research, which is based on 2 years before March 2020, when the first Covid-19 case was seen in Turkey, and one and a half years after the pandemic began, it was observed that there were changes in the premium production of participation insurance companies, production on the basis of sales style, and premium production on the basis of insurance branch. It is observed that there has been a decrease in the market shares of participation insurance companies during the pandemic process, especially in the accident branch and land vehicles branch. It was determined that there was an increase in the disease-health branch. In this context, it can be evaluated that individuals prefer the disease-health branch intensively due to the health threat of the pandemic process on people. In addition, it is seen that the Covid-19 pandemic has adversely affected the agencies in the sales channel distribution.
